Sustainable development and Community relations |

Activities are evolving so rapidly that keeping all the stakeholders, whether internal or external, up to date is a challenge as well as a priority. The Fasimainty Centre came into existence with the objective of creating a transparent and smooth flow of information, not only for the community, but also for employees. Construction ended in late 2008 as Rio Tinto QMM moved into its new facilities at Mandena. The location of the Centre in the heart of the city of Fort Dauphin ensures that Rio Tinto QMM and the Port of Ehoala keeps in touch with all of its communities and stakeholders.
In addition to its classic information and communication function, the Fasimainty Centre is also a tool for monitoring public opinion. Information collected from interactions with visitors is sent to the appropriate department which then takes the related follow-up action on any issues. This information centre, a new concept in a relatively isolated region such as Fort Dauphin, is one of the tools created by management to achieve one of Rio Tinto/QMM's important goals:
Harmonious integration of the company with its host country as well as
harmonious integration of new recruits into the company in order to achieve optimal results.
