Integrated Development Programme: royal carps on the menu

After 8 months of fish culture, the 54 pools built by fishermen of the Lanirano lagoon produced the first royal carps. Sold about 8000 Ariary each to the restaurants in Fort Dauphin, these fishes will significantly improve revenues random fishing.

This project finds its genesis in 2011 when 46 farmers from the villages of Andranokana, Andrakaraka and Emanaka were trained in royal carp culture in Carion, about forty kilometers from Antananarivo. They were already in Integrated Development Programme (IDP) implemented by QMM. The supervision agency, the Entreprise Manoa has chosen to shift future farmers in the field rather than making a trainer come. They were able to couple theoretical, practical courses and field visit. The carp has enriched the dozens of revenue-generating activities created within the IDP.
