Our commitments

Our objectives are determined by a five-year operation plan common to all the Rio Tinto’s group procurement departments. One of the strategic pillars of the Rio Tinto’s five year procurement plan defines our vision in terms of sustainable collaboration with our suppliers.

To secure a “win-win" collaboration, our local partners also commit themselves in the long term to improve their performance to best meet the expectations of Rio Tinto QMM.

Thus, each of our local partners is committed to:

1. Aligning their structure and their activities with Rio Tinto’s requirements on the basis of the recommendations linked to the pre-qualification and to the periodic evaluations;
2. Improving their social and economic impacts on the local community (employment and local purchase);
3. Strengthening the initiative of skill development within their area of influence and into their operations

Effective, innovative, profitable and safer entrepreneurs are key strategic partners for the success of QMM S.A’s activity.

Thus, the QMM S.A. suppliers’ development plan for the next 5 years focuses on the following objectives:

• Improvement of the communication and the publication of tenders:

- Planning of meetings with regional economic actors (suppliers forum), in partnership with the Local Purchase Follow-up committee

- Collaboration with the Follow-up Committee in the creation of a Business centre to support local entrepreneurs

• Growth and development of the technical skills and the business performances of all the identified local partners
• Intensification of the company’s development program to increase the number of level 1 local companies
• Assistance and support to local entrepreneurs in the elaboration of their business plan
• Use of the preferential rule as one of the main mechanisms to positively influence the socioeconomic development in host communities.

These objectives are supplementing key requirements such as safety, process reliability, quality and service to the clients.
