Rio Tinto QMM will export from the new port of Ehoala 750,000 tonnes ilmenite and 60,000 tonnes Zirsill per annum. In support of its operations, QMM will use this facility for fuel import at an annual rhythm of more than 30,000 tonnes, and for a containerised traffic volume for the shipment of equipment, machinery, materials and spare parts required for the smooth functioning of the mine.
As the new port of Ehoala is a public utility port (the primary quay will be used by Rio Tinto QMM for about one week per month), it will take over from the existing port with regards to exports of sisal, fishery products and other export goods, as well as the import of staple commodities (rice, flour, etc.) and construction materials (cement, steel, etc.)
Furthermore, the new port will be able to accommodate traffic associated with cruise tourism.
