Characteristics of the Port of Ehoala

The new port of Ehoala near Fort Dauphin, which opened in July 2009 is the concretisation of an innovative concept for Madagascar: a multi-purpose utility deep-water port (15.75 m at berth) under private management. QMM will use the primary berth for about a week a month.

The port infrastructures include:

- A 625 m long breakwater
- One quay comprising 3 multipurpose berths:
  • A 275 m long primary berth
  • A 150 m long secondary berth which can accommodate different types of ships
  •  A third 75 m long intermediate berth
- Two groynes to contain littoral sand movement
- A secured yard for the storage of containers and various cargo
- Power block for refrigerated containers.
- One shed for ilmenite storage
- Two warehouses for general cargo storage
- 400 hectares perimeter for industrial development available to investors: Ehoala Park & Ehoala Village supplied with water and electricity by Rio Tinto QMM.
