Before construction began, we assessed the potential of the local workforce to meet project needs. A database was created to hold details of villagers who lived at proximity to the various construction worksites. These candidates were prequalified through screening and training. Our contractors are required to hire labour from the database whenever possible before looking elsewhere.
To promote the opportunities the mine brings – direct and indirect employment – we invested in a quality secondary school in the Fort-Dauphin region. A regional vocational training centre is in the pipeline. The centre will be a joint investment with regional and other donors.
