Key objectives of the biodiversity programme
We aim to
- Protect and conserve the unique biodiversity of the mining sites and other related infrastructures
- Identify opportunities to enhance biodiversity conservation
- Build capacity for better use of the natural resources
- Promote fast growing plantations for community use, biodiversity conservation, rehabilitation and dune stabilisation
- Work towards the restoration of the natural ecosystems and rehabilitation of the land
- Ensure compliance with environmental management programmes and assessments, EMP, SEIA, SEMP, and commitment with the Malagasy Government's ONE
- Ensure compliance with Rio Tinto's environmental standards, biodiversity strategy and principles, and community standards
